Polyester strapping, also known as plastic strapping is valued for many reasons but most importantly because it is safer than and not as expensive as steel strapping. More and more industries are moving over to poly strapping because it is affordable and reduces chances of injuries. They are less likely to cause damage to surfaces, paint, or even the forklift tires. They can also fit firmly around packages with irregular shapes.
Stretching Benefits
When it comes to steel vs. polyester strapping comparison, the latter has a big stretch advantage. Because of this property, the banding can conform to the load just like rubber band. But that doesn’t mean in any way that it lacks in strength. The new line of high-strength poly straps are the perfect combination of strength, stretching, and stability. They offer the advantages of both steel and plastic and can also be recycled.
There are so many advantages of using polyester over steel. Steel banding has high levels of safety concerns. It is also quite heavy. Steel coils can weigh almost 100% more than poly coils. They are much difficult to load in the dispenser, and there is high risk of injury.
Another advantage of poly strapping in the steel vs. polyester strapping comparison is that steel straps can tear and scratch the load. Plastic strapping doesn’t rust or stain the load.
Advantages of Poly Strapping
- Some of the main advantages of plastic strapping are as following:
- It causes no damage to the load during transport
- It has high level of shock absorption
- It helps in reducing pressure on the load edges, eliminating the need for corner protectors
- Maintains strap tensioning even when package is likely to shrink in storage or transportation
- Is much more affordable than steel strapping
- Minimal risk of injury
- Because polyester is recyclable, it is environment friendly
Types of Polyester Strapping
There are two main types of poly strapping and Plastic battery tools can be used for both types. These two types are:
Embossed polyester strapping has texture and offers more friction. It will have diamond shaped texture that helps in holding the strap firmly on the load. There are many seal types and accessories suited to the two different types of poly straps.
Smooth-finish poly strapping is the most widely used type of plastic strapping. This type of straps may not have the advantage of friction, but they will usually have better break strength. Most polyester tools are ideally suited for use with both types of straps.
